Here at the Stitch Niche our goal and vision is to provide the community with a place to learn, build new relationships, and revive forgotten arts.
The Stitch Niche is a community meeting place and social location for anyone interested in the arts. We sell quality, affordable yarns, fabric, fiber, notions, and crafting supplies. Our goal is to make the arts accessible and enjoyable for the entire community!
The Stitch Niche is unlike most small artisan craft stores in that we strive for social inclusiveness. We do this by offering a large variety of classes and supplies as affordably as possible. While quality is required in all of our products and services, inclusivity is always the deciding factor. We look forward to sharing our skills, knowledge, and arts to a wider range of people than those who are traditionally cater to.
About Our Family
We aren’t just employees, we are family. Each member of our team has a unique set of specializations that makes them an invaluable addition to our group. Here’s a brief introduction to our fun, fiber-loving family.
Helen Messerly – Co-owner and Original Founder- One of our owners and founders, Helen loves anything fiber! Spinning, weaving, knitting, and crocheting are among her many crafting passions. Helen can often be found in the shop for our social events, such as Friday Night Knits.
Rebecca Selpien – Co-owner, Store Manager, and Original Founder – One of our owners and founders, Rebecca comes armed with a full range of crafting knowledge and expertise, including needlework, crocheting, knitting, lace crochet, tatting, entrelac knitting, lace crocheting, spinning, weaving, dying, and more! Rebecca is one of our busiest teachers as she teaches various knitting, crocheting, and spinning classes. She’s now expanding into a class to aid the local homeschooling community with her upcoming class on planning homeschooling curriculum.
Alex Kickbusch – Original Founder – Alex, Rebecca’s oldest daughter, has more hobbies than hands! She is a chainmailler, spinner, crocheter, knitter, quilter, website assistant, and photographer. In addition to this, she is a student, musician, fencer, and disc golfer. In her free time, she can usually be found daydreaming about fibers! She has taught various chainmaille jewelry classes and a wire crochet class.
Casey Beck – Store Manager and Original Founder – Casey, Helen’s daughter, is our crafting enthusiast! She knits, crochets, spins, weaves, drop spins, sews, quilts, dyes, and beads in addition to her work as our sewing machine technician. Proud homeschooling mother of three and hopeful homesteader, Casey has been a part of our crew since day one! Casey has taught multiple crocheting, knitting, and sewing classes.
Elizabeth Kickbusch – Original Founder – Elizabeth, Rebecca’s youngest daughter, is an elusive ninja working behind the scenes. She finishes and assembles all of the spinning wheels and looms, creates beautiful pens and seam rippers, and provides our scissor sharpening service! Elizabeth is not just an avid woodworker, but a student and an extremely talented musician.
Gail Harwin – Gail is our quilting expert! Her full time job is at a local preschool, but her crafting is her passion and her therapy. Gail loves to live in the country where she has a separate building exclusively for her crafts, including long arm quilting and machine embroidery. Gail teaches quilting classes whenever she can and runs our Block of the Month program!
Hannah Steadman – Original Founder – Hannah’s bubbly personality and enthusiasm are contagious! Her skills include knitting, crocheting, weaving, and sewing. A happy homeschooling mom of four, Hannah’s never ending excitement for crafting make her a valuable and much loved member of our group.
Katy Brown – Our resident graphic and web developer, crazy cat lady, acrylic and watercolor artist, and eventual novelist! Her technical skills and passion for art make her a perfect fit for our team.
All of our ladies have a passion for crafting and a dedication to our shop that makes them the best customer service team in town, stop on by and see for yourself! We hope to meet you soon!

In November of 2018, we lost one of our founding members, Cheryl LeFon. A sewing wizard with over thirty years of experience teaching, she brought an invaluable amount of sewing skills and knowledge to our team. A proud mother and grandmother, her bright personality made her a joy to work with. Her presence here will forever be missed.
